One of the most beautifully done pieces of YA literature I've read to date. The characters are complex and well-rounded, and the fantasy element is done in such a way that it feels real--you ask yourself, why couldn't this really happen? The pacing was great, and the ending was beautifully done. Just enough to wrap up the story cohesively, but not drawn out so much that it is overkill. And while you are left wanting more, it is not a cliffhanger that drives you crazy until the next book. It stands strong on its own. Also, Sam Roth might be the sweetest fictional character in existence. I dare you not to fall in love with him.
